Officers and Advisors

DIRECTORS

Robert Ian Goodman founded the International Center for Law, Trade and Diplomacy, Inc. in March, 1997 and is currently its President and Executive Director. Mr. Goodman is the principal in the Law Office of Robert Ian Goodman, which specializes in general commercial and international commercial litigation, is of-counsel to the law firm of Edward R. Curtin, P.C. and is an affiliate of McCallion & Associates; both firms are based in New York City. In 1999, Mr. Goodman co-founded InternationalLawHelp.Com, a web site dedicated to disseminating information on international law to the general public.

Laura Miller is currently the Humanities Congruence Specialist of the Manhattan High School System and has been significantly involved in the development and implementation of reforms in the Global Studies curriculum, including the implementation of New York States Global Studies Regiants Examination.  

Ian Anderson was born in Paisely, Scotland. He graduated from Aberdeen University School of Law receiving the Hunter Gold Medal for his academic achievements in 1970. In 1975, he received an LL.M from Capetown University School of Law in South Africa and in 1976 received an LL.B from the University of South Africa Law School. From 1970-1973, Mr. Anderson practiced civil litigation as a barrister at the Edinburgh Bar. From 1973-1976 he lectured on Tort Law at Witwatersrand Law School, South Africa. From 1976-1988, he practiced civil and criminal law as a barrister at the Johannesburg Bar, South Africa. Since 1988, Mr. Anderson has practiced law in New York City, representing clients in a varied array of commercial and human rights matters. Recently, Mr. Anderson litigated successfully before the European Commission on Human Rights in the case McGinley and EE v. United Kingdom, representing a class of nuclear test victims. In 1994, Mr. Anderson became an advisor to the Subcommittee on International Criminal Law of the New York County Lawyers' Association, and has served as a guest lecturer on human rights law in the Association's Summer Research Internship Program for Law Students on Public International Law and Human Rights. He is an expert in European Human Rights Law and is an active participant in a number of associations including the International Commission of Jurists, Lawyers' Committee on Nuclear Policy and the International Third World Legal Studies Association. Mr. Anderson is fluent in Flemish and Afrikaans.

Taufiq Choudhury was born in Bangladesh. In 1981, he received an LL.M from Kiev State University, Ukraine. He received a post-graduate diploma in European Integration from the Europa Institute, University of Amsterdam in 1986 and in 1987 received his LL.M in law from the University of Georgia, United States. Mr. Choudhury has participated in law development work in Central and Eastern Europe, serving as a commentator for the American Bar Association's Central and East European Law Initiative on the Draft Law on Citizenship for the Republic of Macedonia. Since 1988, he has practiced immigration law in New York City and is an active member of the Committees on Immigration Law of the New York County Lawyers' Association, and the New York State Bar Association. Mr. Choudhury is fluent in Russian and Bengali.

Carol M. Goodman is currently of-counsel to the law firm Herrick Feinstein, based in New York City and specializes in general commercial litigation and employment law. Ms. Goodman graduated from Emory University, Atlanta, Georgia with a BA in Business and Finance in 1987 and received her Juris Doctor from Fordham University School of Law in New York City in 1990.

Mark R. von Sternberg joined the Catholic Legal Immigration Network, Inc. in 1986 where he is, presently, a Senior Attorney. His practice involves representing indigent asylum applicants principally before the Executive Office of Immigration Review. He received his B.A. from Columbia College in 1969 and Juris Doctor from Vanderbilt University School of Law in 1973. In 1984, he received an LL.M. from New York University Law School in International Legal Studies. From 1994 to the present he has served as Special Advisor to the Subcommittee on International Criminal Law of the New York County Lawyers' Association (NYCLA) on issues concerning Human Rights and Humanitarian Law and has been a principal lecturer in the NYCLA Summer Research Internship Program for Law Students on Public International Law and Human Rights. Mr. von Sternberg is widely published in the areas of refugee and humanitarian law, including recent works, "Yugoslavian War Crimes and the Search for a New Humanitarian Order: The Case of Dusko Tadic," 12-1 St. John's J. Legal Commentary (1997) [Forthcoming], "The Plight of the Non-Combatant in Civil War and the New Criteria for Refugee Status," 9 Int'l J. Refugee Law (1997), and "A Comparison of the Yugoslavian and Rwandan War Crimes Tribunals: Universal Jurisdiction and the Elementary Dictates of Humanity," Brooklyn Journal of International Law (1996). Prior to specializing in asylum and refugee law, Mr. von Sternberg served in a number of capacities as a specialist in corporate and securities law. From 1975 to 1977 he was an attorney in the New York Regional Office of the Securities and Exchange Commission. From 1977 to 1982 he was general counsel of Arkansas Company, Inc., based in New Jersey, serving as President and General Counsel from 1982 to 1985. From 1985 to 1986, prior to joining the Catholic Legal Immigration Network, he served as counsel to the American Board of Trade, New York, New York.
