FINANCIAL STATUS OF THE ICLTD

As with all organizations, the most significant goal is to establish a reliable and diversified source of funds. In its first fiscal year, the ICLTD received relatively few contributions to defray the basic costs of its operations. One goal for Fiscal 1999 is to develop a volunteer program to assist the Executive Director in developing lists of fund raising targets and preparing grant applications. Since registering with the Charities Bureau of New York State in January, 1998, the ICLTD has unsuccessfully applied for funds from about five institutions, all of which expressed some interest in the organization’s projects but found them inconsistent with their own guidelines. Far more research needs to be done to locate appropriate grant-making sources and make the necessary approaches. A much higher number of applications needs to be prepared and submitted at greater frequency.

The second goal of the ICLTD is to be more active in soliciting friends of the organization for financial support. In its first Fiscal Year the organization shied away from aggressively pursuing this solicitation strategy, but for this coming year, financial support from its leaders and friends will be critical to the ICLTD’s continued efforts to build on the significant work that has been done by a number of dedicated people. In addition, contributions from supporters will be important to attracting additional funds from the larger philanthropies. I think we can be proud of what the ICLTD has been able to accomplish this past year. I would encourage your continued support.
