HOW DOES THE ICLTD DIFFER FROM OTHER FOREIGN AFFAIRS ORGANIZATIONS?

  • The ICLTD's programs and services are generally available to anyone interested in participating in the nation's foreign policy debate. It is not a membership organization with membership restrictions or dues.

  • The ICLTD has provided individuals and organizations concerned with particular issues individualized attention and is prepared to develop educational materials and research reports on a customized basis. Supporting its effort to provide customized services the ICLTD is developing data resources touching on many issues from international law to human rights, from international health to national security.

  • ICLTD programs are crafted to meet the interests of specific audiences with the long-range objective of engaging as many persons as possible across political, ethnic and racial lines. The building blocks of this public engagement are collaborative programs with community and civic groups, schools, universities, labor organizations, church groups and other similar organizations.

  • The ICLTD serves as a unique bridge between and among government agencies, foreign policy, business, human rights organizations and other such organizations and the general public interested in learning about foreign policy and world affairs issues. By taking this multilateral approach to shaping its programs the ICLTD expects to cut down on the duplication of work in the field, as well as to promote in addition to its own projects the work of other fine organizations and persons.

  • The ICLTD seeks to enlist the energy and enthusiasm of young people by providing them with a forum for their ideas on global issues and by affording them opportunities to engage in research, field work and outreach projects targeted at other audiences.

  • The ICLTD provides interested members of the general public with reports and newsletters advising them concerning international developments and information sources, as well as making available to interested persons opportunities to express their opinions and receive responses to their questions.

  • The ICLTD can provide through its world affairs programming not only information concerning current events and international trends but insight into how foreign policy is formulated and implemented and how diplomacy can advance peace and economic progress. Emphasizing long-term programming that will improve the way world education is being taught in schools and other organizations, the ICLTD plans to develop in addition to accessible written materials, technologies that can promote a higher degree of interest and engagement.
